Moral crime definition
=acts that go against society’s norms or moral codes
Examples of moral crime
-vagrancy
-prostitution
-begging
-under-age drinking
Victims of moral crime
-most are victimless, no specific victim especially with consenting adults (drugs purchaser unlikely to report themself or dealer)
-under-age drinking no consenting adult but identifiable victim
-some consenting adults=victims e.g. prostitutes desperate or exploited by pimp
Offenders of moral crime
-offenders vary according to crime, for some it may be source of income e.g. drug dealers
-some may be forced into offending due to personal circumstances (vagrants + beggars)
Level of public awareness - moral crime
-often little awareness of these due to under reporting especially if offender + victim share interest in concealing the crime
-if public are aware may choose to not report it (fear or e.g. begging- more likely to give money than call police)
Criminal/deviant - moral crime
criminal and generally deviant yet some believe some shouldn’t be against the law e.g. vagrancy= not their choice/ drug consumption= personal choice
