Why should we warm up?
To reduce risk of injury
To improve performance

What does a warm up achieve?
Gradually raises the body temperature and heart rate, which means muscles receive more oxygen, so muscles have more energy and are more elastic, meaning they are less susceptible to injury.
What are the stages of a good warm up?
1- Pulse raising activity
2- Joint mobility (isolations, swinging movements)
3- Flexibility (dynamic stretches)
4- Core stability
What should a cool down achieve and why is it important?
Allows heart rate to gradually return to normal and prevents build up of lactic acid which may lead to stiffness or soreness.
What should a cool down entail?
Slow exercices, passive stretching and breathing exercises.
What makes a safe and appropriate dance or performance space?
Big enough to accommodante dancers High enough to allow jumping and lifts No obstacles or trailing wires Clean, sprung and splinter free floor Proper ventilation Well lit Mirrors made from safety glss
What should a dancer wear?
Clean, stretchy and well fitting clothes that offer good support and coverage and don’t hang too loose or dangle. No socks, or with proper dance shoes and hair tied back.
How should one safely land a jump?
Work through knees and feet when landing, ensuring proper alignment.
How should lifts be conducted?
All dancers are aware of the goal
lifter has a wide base and bent knees to lower centre of gravity
Use a spotter in rehearsal
