Q
Secondary intention wound healing
A
Substantial tissue loss
Wound left open and allowed for deep aspects to heal first (epithelialisation, granulation, contraction)
Vac dressings (negative pressure) help healing
1
Q
Primary intention wound healing
A
Uncontaminated wounds, easily approximated with sutures/staples/adhesive strips
Rapid epithelialisation and formation of minimal granulation tissue/scar
2
Q
Which wounds can be left to heal by secondary intention
A
Extensive loss of epithelium Extensive contamination Extensive tissue damage Extensive oedema so can't close Wound reopened (eg. Infection, failure of knot)
3
Q
Tertiary intention wound healing
A
Wound closed several days after formation
Ie. can follow after secondary intention
