Technical Implemenation - Hardware And Software Flashcards
What are the hardware requirements
1) input and output devices
2) processor type, number and speed
3) memory (RAM, ROM, CACHE)
4) device type (desktop, laptop, smartphone)
What is an input device and give 3 examples
A piece of hardware that lets you put information into a computer
Eg.
•mouse
•keyboard
•microphone
What is an output device and give 3 examples
A piece of hardware that provides user with information
E.g
Monitors
Printers
Loud speakers
What is a processor measured in?
Hz
What is the advantages of a processor hyacinth multiple cores
The higher the number of cores the faster you can perform tasks
What is the processor does not have the right speed
Can’t run software effectively
Where is the operating system stored
RAM
What is the difference between main memory and backing storage
Main:
Located inside the computer system. Can either be RAM or ROM
Backing:
Outside the main processor
E.g hard drives, USB flash memory
give 2 features of ROM
Data is stored permanently
Cannot be changed
What is RAM and give 2 features
Holds all programs data
Features:
Processor can write and read from RAM
Data held in RAM can be changed
If power turned off, all data is lost
What is cache and why is it used
Cache memory is an area of fast access memory.
Use:
Used to temporarily store data and instructions that are frequently used
What is the advantage of cache
Computer does not need to read from main memory, which is much slower therefore saving time
