Tech in Management of People Flashcards
Video Conferencing
(hiring)
Video conferencing means technology can provide a video-link between two or more people. Instead of just talking to someone by telephone, you can see them as well.
Video conferencing can be used by the human resources department to conduct interviews. This will save the company time and money on travel but still allows the interviewer to see the potential candidate’s appearance and body language.
Internet
(hiring)
Can be used by candidates to complete on-line application forms.
This will speed up the recruitment process and save money for the organisation.
The Internet can also be used to advertise jobs online which increases the number of potential applicants.
Electronic Testing
(hiring)
Can be used to help in the selection process.
Candidates can complete on-line tests, either in the office or from home.
These tests can then be electronically marked. This allows the company to better compare potential employees’ abilities.
Presentation Software
(training)
Applications such as PowerPoint and Prezze can be used to help present training courses.
Virtual learning environment (VLE)
(training)
Allows employees to access training materials on-line or through specific industry-based software packages.
VLE environments allow learners to:
- access training materials
- submit assignments and assessments
- chat with other learners or experts
- VLE can be accessed from anywhere. This means employees can
undertake training at a time or place of their choice.
Can be costly for an organisation to set up a VLE. But it can save the company time and money on travel or employing specialist trainers.
E-diary
(day-to-day management)
Can be used to schedule meetings and appointments.
Staff can access other employees’ diaries to see their availability. This can help prevent double booking and speed up the process of arranging meetings.
Databases
(day-to-day management)
Store information on employees which can then be easily found using queries.
Reports can be generated automatically to help aid in staff management.
