What are the two types of liquid-liquid separation? Described each.
A
washing - solvent is used to selectively remove unwanted components in a mixture.
extraction - performed to separate an organic acid/base from an organic neutral compound. an extraction is used to remove and keep a component using a solvent.

What is the principle behind an extraction?
A
That each compound in a mixture will prefer residing in one of two immiscible phases. The twi immiscible phases are liquids such as an aq solution and an organic liquid.
