TeachMeAnatomy Flashcards
what is the arterial supply of the penis?
branches of the internal pudendal artery (a branch of anterior division of internal iliac):
- dorsal artery
- deep arteries of penis
- bulbourethral artery
venous drainage of penis
Venous blood is drained from the penis by paired veins. The cavernous spaces are drained by the deep dorsal vein of the penis – this empties into the prostatic venous plexus. The superficial dorsal veins drain the superficial structures of the penis, such as the skin and cutaneous tissues.
lymphatic drainage of penis
penile skin: superficial inguinal nodes
glans: to deep inguinal and external iliac nodes
erectile tissue and penile urethra: to internal iliac lymph nodes
what is the innervation of the testes and epididymis?
testicular plexus – a network of nerves derived from the renal and aortic plexi.
testes lymphatic drainage
Since the testes are originally retroperitoneal organs, the lymphatic drainage is to the lumbar and para-aortic nodes, along the lumbar vertebrae.
scrotum lymphatic drainage
superficial inguinal
prostate gland innervation
The prostate receives sympathetic, parasympathetic and sensory innervation from the inferior hypogastric plexus.
prostate gland lymphatic drainge
internal iliac lymph nodes mainly
seminal vesicles lymphatic drainage
The lymphatic drainage of the gland is the external and internal iliac lymph nodes.
vulva lymphatic drainage
superficial inguinal lymph nodes
vagina lymphatic drainage
Superior – drains to external iliac nodes
Middle – drains to internal iliac nodes
Inferior – drains to superficial inguinal lymph nodes.
ectocervix epithelium
The ectocervix is the portion of the cervix that projects into the vagina. It is lined by stratified squamous non-keratinized epithelium.
endocervix epithelium
The endocervical canal (or endocervix) is the more proximal, and ‘inner’ part of the cervix. It is lined by a mucus-secreting simple columnar epithelium.
uterus lymphatic drainage
fundus - pre-aortic
body: external iliac nodes
fallopian tubes lymphatic drainage
via ovarian vessels to the para-aortic nodes and uterine vessels to the internal iliac chain
some drainage also to the inguinal nodes via the round ligament
