[Teaching] Generic Questions Flashcards
This deck contains questions about general teaching styles, pedagogy, or experiences.
How would you describe your teaching style? (or describe yourself as a teacher)
Can you describe your teaching philosophy and how it shapes your approach to the classroom?
What are your strengths as a teacher?
What are your weaknesses as a teacher?
What is an example of your teaching success?
What are some teaching challenges you have faced?
You seem to have a strong research profile, why are you interested in a teaching-heavy position?
How do you approach course evaluations, and how do you use student feedback to improve your teaching?
I consider course evaluations as an important tool for students to communicate their learning experiences with me in a honest way. Aside from the end of semester evaluation, I also use exit tickets to conduct informal surveys at the middle of the semester to collect students’ feedback on the pacing of the lecture, class activities, workload of the course so that I can make relevant adjustment going forward without compromising my pedagogical goals.
For instance, in my Ethics of Human Enhancement class, some students express that they wish I could be more handholding in their group activities. Instead of directly participating in students’ discussions, the adjustment I make is to provide very concrete steps they can follow in their group work.
What professional development opportunities have you pursued to enhance your teaching skills, and how do you plan to continue growing as an educator?
How does your research inform your teaching?
