TCAS Flashcards
What’s the difference between TCAS I and TCAS II?
Difference is in alerting capability
TCAS I can only give TA:s not RA:s
How does TCAS function?
Uses SSR.
Interrogation is done on 1030 MHz and gets replies on 1090 MHz
If another aircraft has TCAS II what information will you get?
You will receive TA:s and co-cordinated RA:s
What is required for TCAS II to work?
A Mode S transponder
Define “Other traffic”
More than 1’200 ft or beyond
Define “Proximate traffic”
Within 1’200 ft and 6 nm
Define “TA”
20 - 48 sec to CPA
Define “RA”
15 - 35 sec to CPA
What does CPA means?
Closest Point of Approach
How many aircrafts can TCAS:
- Track
- Display
- Co-ordinate RA:s with?
- Can track 45 a/c
- Can display 30 a/c
- Can co-ordinate RA:s between 3 a/c
Difference between: Above Normal Below setting on the TCAS box?
Above = 9'000 ft above - 2'700 ft below Normal = 2'700 ft above - 2'700 ft below Below = 2'700 ft above - 9'000 ft below
What reaction time is TCAS based upon?
5 sec reaction time
When are RA:s inhibited?
Below 900 ft descending or 1’100 ft climbing
Which has higher priority: GWPS or TCAS?
GPWS
What are the performance limitations set on RA:s?
Max 500 ft climb or descent and increase of 0,25 G
