What is a Monarch?
A king/queen of a monarchy.
What is a Monastery?
local community or residence of a religious order.
Who was Charlemagne?
A West-European Frankish king who ruled over West-Europe during the 8th century. He was the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
What is Feudalism?
A social system which people were given land and food in exchange for work.
What is Manorialism?
A social system by which the peasants of medieval Europe were dependent on their lord and his land.
What was The Black Death (Bubonic Plague)?
A plague which spread throughout the entirety of Europe which killed most of the world population at the time.
Who was Joan of Arc?
A French peasant who claimed to have heard from God, which she claimed told her to fight for Europe.
What is the North Atlantic Drift?
A western boundary current within the Atlantic Ocean that extends the Gulf Stream northeastward.
What was the Holy Roman Empire?
An empire which was spread throughout Rome, usually ruled by the Pope.
What was The Battle of Hastings?
It was a fight between England and France to decide who would be the king of England. France ended with a victory by killing the English ruler.
Who was William the Conqueror?
The French army general who won the Battle of Hastings and rulership of England.
What is the Papacy?
The Papacy was the system in the Holy Roman Empire which had rankings, the highest being the Pope.
What were The Crusades?
A series of battles which were fought in the name of religion. The Crusades were the deadliest battle of the time.
Who were Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand?
The 2 Spanish rulers which unified Spain. They are known as the Catholic Monarchs. They were very influential during the Reconquista and Inquisition.
What was the Magna Carta?
A piece of text which speaks about giving every person accused of a crime a fair trial.
