What are the 2 forms of TB chemoprophylaxis?
Tuberculosis preventive therapy (TPT)
* Isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT)
Before initiating TPT, what should you do?
Rule out TB
TPT should undergo clinical evaluation (symptom check and physical examination - CXR) and be tested with
GeneXpert (Xpert), even if asymptomatic.
Who requires TPT? (5)
TB contacts: All adults, adolescents and children (including newborns or
infants) exposed to TB require TPT ,once T.B disease has been excluded through evaluation
People living with HIV: All adults, adolescents and children including infants living with HIV (irrespective of a known significant TB exposure)
Inmates in correctional facilities after ‘significant TB exposure’
* Healthcare workers
* People who previously had TB after ‘significant TB exposure’
What is the 3HP chemoprophylaxis regimen?
3 months of weekly isoniazid PLUS rifapentine
What is the 3HR chemoprophylaxis regimen?
3 months of daily rifampicin PLUS isoniazid
What is the 6H chemoprophylaxis regimen?
6 months of daily isoniazid
What is the 12H chemoprophylaxis regimen?
12 months of daily isoniazid
Symptoms screening -which symptoms to screen for?
HIV+
* Cough (any duration)
* Fever
* Unexplained weight loss
* Night sweats
* History of previous TB
* Adherence to ART
