What is the type of TB called ‘New case’?
-Active TB in a person who has never been treated for or had TB
What is the type of TB called ‘Relapse and reactivation’?
-Active TB in a person who has been non infectious
What is the type of TB called ‘Latent infection’?
-Person with a positive Mantoux test and no evidence of active disease
What is the type of TB called ‘Old disease on preventative treatment’?
-No active disease
What is the type of TB called ‘Resistant TB’?
-Takes over, no treatment will work. Spreads to the brain
What are the risk factors for TB?
- Close contact with someone with TB
- Alcohol and IV abuse
- Occupation (Nurse)
What are symptoms of TB?
- Asymptomatic
- Anorexia
- Fatigue
- Weight-loss
- 3 Week cough
- Chills/ night sweats
What are the diagnostic test for TB?
- Mantoux skin test
- Chest Xray
- Sputum analysis
What is the treatment for TB?
- Isoniazid
- Rifampin
- Ethambutol
What is TB?
- Chronic bacterial infection
- Mainly in the upper lungs as it likes oxygen
- Once in the body it spreads to brain, joints, liver, spine and kidneys.
What is the prevention of TB?
-Vaccine for increased risk
What is the onset of TB?
- Can remain inactive for years without spreading/ causing symptoms
- Can become active with weakened immune system and cause infections in the lungs and other organs
