Korsakoff’s syndrome
The most common amnesic syndrome caused by damage of the mammillary bodies and the dorsomedial nucleus of the thalamus, as we ll as other more diffuse
damage to the frontal lobes (often caused by alcohol)
Wada test
Used for patients needing brain surgery to locate their language & memory functions in order to reduce the risk of damaging them. The test is carried out after injecting a drug that goes into 1 hemisphere at a time, making it dysfunctional
Anosognosia
A neurological condition in which the patient is unaware of their neurological deficit or psychiatric condition.
Anton’s syndrome
A syndrome where the patient is blind but still insists that he can see
Hemifield/unilateral neglect
A syndrome where patient do not realize that the left-hand side of the world even exists
Hemianopia
A condition where V1 is damaged on one side only, which results in blindness on that side
Blindsight
Where people deny having conscious sensory experiences of seeing and yet behave as if they can see (also works for other senses like deafhearing etc.)
Riddoch phenomenon
Blindseers are aware of certain stimuli in their blind field, including fast-moving & high-contrast ones
