TASER safety precautions

A

1 Identify a safe direction
Announce a safe direction (as directed by you)
With the master hand on pistol grip and your finger outside the trigger guard, aim the TASER in that safe direction

2 Set safety switch to safe
There are two positions for the safety switch, ‘safe’ and ‘armed’:
- ‘Safe’ is a downward position
- ‘Armed’ is upward parallel position

3 Check cartridge firing bay
- Visually check the cartridge bays are empty (check them twice)
- Remove cartridges from cartridge bay if fitted
The TASER is an electronic device; therefore do not insert your fingers into the firing bay.

TASER pre op checks

A

1 Identify a safe direction
- Announce a safe direction (as directed by you)
- With the master hand on the pistol grip and your finger outside the trigger guard, aim the TASER in that safe direction

2 Set safety switch to fire
- Check battery level. If 3 bars or less, recharge
- Check for any system faults

3 Arc/spark test
Depress and hold the ARC button, checking for a visible and rapid spark across both firing bays.
- Ensure the device stops after 5 seconds

4 Trigger spark test
Pull and release hold the trigger, checking for a visible and rapid spark across bay 1.
- Ensure the device stops after 5 seconds.

5 Check camera operation
- Cover the camera lens and observe the CID screen flashing yellow

6 Set the safety switch to ‘safe’
- Set the safety switch to the downward ‘safe’ position

7 Check for damage
- Check the TASER for any damage
- Ensure the data port plug is fitted

TASER load

A

1 Smart cartridges
Check not expired and for damage to:
- Blast doors
- Locking clip
- Contacts
- Overall condition of the cartridge

2 Identify a safe direction
- Identify and announce a safe direction (as directed by you)
- Finger outside the trigger guard, aim the TASER in that safe direction
- Set the safety switch to ‘safe’

3 C grip
- Adopt a C grip of the TASER with your master hand and point the TASER in that safe direction

4 Load cartridges
- Using your non master hand secure cartridges into the TASER cartridge bays (furthermost first)

5 Check cartridge status
- Adopt the pistol grip with your master hand and point the TASER in the safe direction
- Set the safety switch to ‘armed’
- Check the CID for cartridge faults
- Ensure 2 lasers are visible

6 Set safety switch to ‘safe’
- Set the safety switch to the downward ‘safe’ position

7 Secure in holster
- Secure the TASER in the holster

TASER unload

A

1 Identify a safe direction

2 Unload cartridges
- Depress and hold the cartridge eject button
- Remove cartridges from cartridge bays (closest first)

3 Visual checks
- Visually check the cartridge bays are empty (check them twice)

4 Secure TASER and cartridges
- Secure the unloaded TASER in the holster
- Secure cartridges

TASER weapon states

A

Load:
Safety switch is set to ‘safe’ and one or two cartridges are fitted to the firing bays

Instant:
Safety switch is set to ‘armed’. (Note that the instant state can be with or without cartridges)

Unload:
Safety switch is set to ‘safe’, there are no cartridges in the firing bays and the TASER is secured in the holster

A

Between 2 and 4.5 metres is optimal.

Extended range continues from 4.5 to 7.6 metres.
