What is the purpose of voltage-gated ion channels in dendrites?
The presence of voltage-gated sodium, calcium and potassium channels on dendritic membranes
helps control the back-propagation of action potentials into dendrites, local action potentials and the spread of synaptic potentials.
What is the purpose of HCN channels in the dendrites?
HCN channels are present with an interesting steep density gradient along the dendrite and might be up-
or down-regulated by synaptic plasticity. By altering the resting potential and the input resistance, these channels regulate dendritic excitability, the size and time course of synaptic potentials, and therefore the extent of temporal summation and dendritic integration of synaptic inputs.
What is the purpose of Kv2 channels in the dendrites?
Kv2.1 channels support the somatodendritic delayed rectifier current IK.
