Ch’i or qi
• Refers to the vital energy or life forces that permeates all living things and the universe
• It is seen as the fundamental essence that animates and sustains everything
• Ch’i is believed to flow through channels or meridians within the body, and its balance and harmonious circulation are considered essential for physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing
Wu-Wei
• In Taoist belief, Wu-Wei is a concept that can be translated as “non-action” or “effortless action”
• It emphasizes the idea of effortless and intuitive action that is free from unnecessary resistance, force, or striving
Ying & Yang
• The Ying & Yang is a concept in Taoist belief that represents the interconnected and complementary nature of all things in the universe
• Yin: represents the feminine, passive, and receptive aspects.
• Yang: represents the masculine, active, and assertive aspects
• They symbolize the constant interplay and balance between these forces, with each containing a seed of the other within it
Tao Te-Ching
• The Tao Te-Ching is a fundamental text in Taoist belief that consists of philosophical and poetic verses attributed to the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu
• It emphasizes the cultivation of wisdom, harmony with nature, simplicity, and the practice of wu-wei as a path to living in accordance with the Tao
Lao-Tzu
• Lao-Tzu, also known as Laozi, is a central figure in Taoist belief
• He is traditionally regarded as the author of the Tao Te-Ching
• Lao-Tzu is considered to be the founder of Taoism
• He is revered as a wise sage and spiritual master
Tao
• In Taoist belief, the Tao (also spelled Dao) refers to the fundamental concept and principle that represents the natural order of the universe
• It is often described as the way or the path
• Representing the underlying force that governs all aspects of existence
Harmony
• In Taoist belief, Harmony refers to a state of balance and alignment with the natural order of the universe
• It emphasizes the interconnectedness and interdependence of all the things, where harmony is achieved by embracing the principle of wu-wei and following with the rythym of nature
The Fu
• The Fu refers to a type of Chinese scripture or talisman that is often written or inscribed on paper or other materials
• These writings are considered to hold magical or spiritual power and are believed to provide protection, blessings, or assistance to those who possess or carry them
