Taking In And Storing Information Flashcards
What is sensory information?
The information you see and hear which you are able to hold onto for a split second
What is short term memory
what is held in your mind at that exact moment of thinking
What is the process of maintainable rehearsal and chunking?
Maintainable rehearsal is information that you hold for More than a few seconds usually by repeating.
Chucking is when you limit information to a capacity which helps you hold more information.
What is primary regency?
Primary regency is how we are able to remember information at the beginning and at the end of a list.
Explain the 4 types of long term memory:
- Semantic memory
• our knowledge of language, words and meaning. - Episodic memory
• our knowledge and recall of our own life - Declarative
• involves both episodic and semantic memory - Procedural memory
• does not require conscience recollection of past experiences.
Explain the 3 memory processes?
Encoding, storage, and retrieval
Encoding- basically uses your senses like hearing, sight, temperature taste
Storage- is based on how much effort is out into memorization
Retrieval- when information is brought to mind from storage.
