Taiga Forests Flashcards
What is a Taiga Forest
Taiga forests are mainly referred too boreal forest it is a biome characterized by coniferous forests consisting mostly of pines, spruces because its mainly in cold climates.
Where is the largest nutrient store in the Taiga forest
The largest store of nutrients is in the dead organic matter from the spikes and needles falling off the trees
How is Decomposition in Taiga forests
Decomposition is a slow process because of the climate being cold creating it longer for the nutrients too break down
Is runoff high in the taiga forest
Run off is very high because the trees have cone shaped tops creating the snow and water too run off easier and quicker
Where is the smallest store of nutrients
Precipitation is the smallest store of nutrients
Why is the vegetation evergreen
The vegetation is ever Green so it can survive all year round without chance of dying too the weather
What is the nutrient cycle like
The nutrient cycle is slow and plant growth is slow because the climate is cold meaning to nutrients take longer to decompose
What are migratory animals
Migratory animals are mainly larger mammals that go long distances for food
What is a Hibernating animal
Hibernating animals are mammals that hibernate through the winter too conserve energy
What have animals done too help them survive in this climate
Some animals such as wolves have got thick fur too protect them from the cold also their fur is coloured white or grey for camouflage too help them catch prey
How long is the growing season?
The growing season is mainly really short because the summer is really short in the north
What are the Habitats like?
The habitats are mainly simple meaning there are very little habitats in this biome
