Rain Forests Flashcards
What are the 4 layers of the rainforest canopy
The Emergents,The Main Canopy,The Under Canopy and The Shrub Layer
What is the layer which is called the emergents
The trees in the emergents are the ones that grow over the main canopy. This is where all the big trees are mainly found.
Whats in the main canopy
This layer is the layer that has the main dense canopy the layer where all the trees grow up too.
Whats in the under canopy
The under canopy has tall shrubs which dont go into the main canopy. Its also mainly made out of younger trees.
Whats in the shrub layer of the forest
The shrub layer is mainly full of small bushes and plants with big leaves to absorb the most light possible because light at the surface is very little.
Whats the biggest store of nutrients
Biomass is because there are so many trees which means leaves die everyday.
Why is there quick decomposition
The temperature is hot and humid meaning that the leaves will get broken down quicker creating it too be a good source of nutrients.
Why is there poor/infertile soil
Because of the mass amount of trees they need energy meaning they need the nutrients creating the soil to run out of nutrients quick.
Why are nutrients washed out of the soil
rain fall washes them away
What are the Producer,The Primary Consumer,The Secondary Consumer and The Tertiary Consumer
The Producers are mainly the plants
The Primary Consumer could be bats
The Secondary Consumer could be frogs
The Tertiary Consumer is mainly the predator like a jaguar
