- Begin with a low key approach, you then have the ability to escalate communication. Starting high gives you know where to go.
- Always be professional.
- Always remain calm, speaking calmly and clearly.
- Listen carefully.
- Where practical, explain to people what you are about to do and why before you do it.
- be assertive where required without being aggressive.
- Finish every request or instruction with “thanks”.
- Wherever possible use positive instructions.
- speak with and treat others as you would like to be spoken with and treated under the same circumstances.
- Ensure your verbal and non-verbal communication matches your words and delivery.
