1- (protect from gastric acid ) : in vivo drug degradation will increase, with less drug available to produce the desired clinical effect.
2- Coating (protect drugs that highly sensitive to the light ) example : Nifedipine

This is particularly important change for
drugs:
e.g. phenytoin, digoxin, carbamazepine, theophylline, or sodium valproate

Sugar coating drugs : Ibuprofen , Quinine
