Phobic Disorder
Persistent and irrational fear of an object or situation that presents no realistic danger.
Panic Disorder
Recurrent attacks of overwhelming anxiety that usually occurs suddenly and unexpectedly.
Agoraphobia
Fear of going out to public places
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Persistent, uncontrollable intrusions of unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and urges to engage in senseless rituals (compulsions)
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Involves enduring psychological disturbance attributed to the experience of a traumatic event.
Somatization Disorder
History of diverse physical complaints that appear to be psychological in origin.
Conversion Disorder
Significant loss of physical functioning with no apparent organic basis, usually in a single organ system.
Hypochondriasis
Excessive worry about one’s health and incessant worry about developing physical illness.
Somatoform Disorders
disorders that are mental illnesses that cause bodily symptoms including pain.
Dissociative Disorders
Involves a person losing contact with portions of their consciousness or memory, disrupting their sense of identity.
Dissociative Identity Disorder
(Multiple Personalities)
Not Schizophrenia!
Dissociative Amnesia
Sudden loss of memory for important personal information. Not due to forgetting.
Fugue:
Lose memory for entire life (e.g., Name)
Mood Disorders
Emotional disturbances that may disrupt physical, perceptual, social, and thought processes.
Major Depressive Disorder
Persistent feelings of sadness and despair and loss of interest in previous sources of pleasure.
Bipolar disorder
Involve episodes of depression and mania
Schizophrenic Disorders
Involve delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, and deterioration of adaptive behaviors
Types of schizophrenics
Paranoid Type: delusions of persecution/grandeur
Catatonic Type: motor disturbances
Disorganized Type: Sever deterioration of adaptive behavior
Undifferentiated Type: mixtures of above
Eating Disorders
Severe disturbances in eating behavior, preoccupation with weight concerns and unhealthy weight control behaviors
