Systems: Physio Flashcards
Skeletal system includes
Bones, ligaments, capsule, cartilage, bursa, meniscus
Function of skeletal system in terms of aim
To allow movement by connecting bones to bones via ligaments
Function of nervous system
To send and receive messages from stimuli and initiate response
Structure of nervous system
-CNS
-PNS
-Afferent
-efferent
Afferent meaning
Body(stimuli) to brain via sensory neurons
Efferent meaning
Brain to body (response) via motor neurons
Difference between CNS and PNS
CNS= brain and spinal cord
PNS= nerves in limbs
Muscular system structure
Skeletal muscles that are
- striated (stripy): contract for movement to occur
- voluntary: can be controlled
Muscular system function
- pull on bones to produce movement
Skeletal structure, types of bones
Long: longer than they are wide
Short: similar width and length
Flat: wider than they are long
Irregular: no set shape
Sesamoid: found within tendons
