Systems of the body Flashcards
What are the 11 systems in the body.
Muscular Respiratory Skin Cardiovascular Skeletal Lymphatic Endocrine (hormones) Nervous Digestive Excretory Reproductive
What do the 11 systems in the body do?
Provide the body with the ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes.
This is called HOMEOSTASIS
Muscular System
are to power movements of the body
stabilise the body with POSTURE
and generate heat THERMO GENESIS.
Respiratory System
2x lungs and associated airway passages. supplies oxygen to the blood, eliminate carbon dioxide.
Skin (integumentary system)
acts a as a blood reservoir
Cardiovascular
Heart, blood vessels and blood to carry and distribute oxygen and hormones around the body.
Skeletal system
Bones, cartilage and joints within the body
Lymphatic& Immune System
composed of lympahtic fluid. returns plasma and proteins to the cardiovascular system.
Endocrine system
Hormone producing glands. releases hormones into the blood to cause changes, E.G. increased heart rate due to the release of adrenalin.
Nervous system
Composed of Brain, Spinal cord nerves and special senses including eyes and ears.
Digestive system
composed of a long tube called GASTRO-INTESTINAL TRACT.
Excretory System
Kidneys, ureters, bladder and uretha, regulates the volume and chemical composition of the blood
Reproductive system
Male and female reproductive organs and genetical material (genes and chromosomes) which pass inherited characteristics into the next generation.
