Q

Describe SELCAL

A

SELCAL is a system that alerts an individual aircraft that a ground station wishes to communicate with it. SELCAL signals are transmitted over HF or VHF, consisting of a combination of four preselected audio tones which takes approximately two seconds to transmit.

Each aircraft has a unique SELCAL code which, when transmitted, activates a cockpit call system.
