Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome Flashcards
1
Q
What is SIRS?
A
It is a systemic inflammatory response and a severe immune response that involves the total body
Does NOT necessarily have to be an infection
2
Q
What are clinical manifestations of SIRS?
A
- Systemic wide vasodilation–> fluid leaking out of vessels (edema)
- Low BP
- Fever
- Elevated WBC
- Poor perfusion because tissues are not getting oxygen, glucose, or nutrients due to the leakage
3
Q
What are the risk factors of SIRS?
A
BAIT PI
- Burns
- Anti inflammatory disorder
- immunosuppressed patient such as chemotherapy patients
- Trauma
- Pancreatitis
- IV drug users
4
Q
What is DIC and how is it treated?
A
Disseminated intravascular coagulation or DIC is a complication of SIRS and is the end stage of SIRS
treat DIC with heparin
