System design Flashcards
contemporary approaches
the movement of human and computer interaction away from basic interfaces (keyboards and mouses) towards more intuitive methods (Eg voice input, touch screen)
voice input pros
allows people to use technology handsfree - more disability friendly + safer when driving
touch screen pros
easy to use (intuitive)
touch screen cons
can’t be used with wet hands
can have orientation problems
force feedback pros
used in video games to make experience more immersive
could be used to identify danger (subtle vibrations)
force feedback con
can be irritating
voice input cons
cannot understand some accents
cannot understand natural language so instructions must be worded specifically
background noise can make voices hard to distinguish
virtual reality pros
can be used to simulate training without danger (eg pilots)
virtual reality cons
cannot accurately simulate real world
what does augmented reality do?
takes real world and lays digital information over it. eg used to show pipe work within buildings based on plans
design validation
a design prototype is shown to the customer in order to give them an idea of the end result and get feedback on changes - done before implementation
system design evaluation
where the development company and the customer decide is a project has been successful
key aspects of evaluation
ensuring requirements are met
ensuring system responds in an acceptable time frame
review if the product was developed on cost and on time
assess how useable the system is by the end user
