SYS 209 - Canopy System Flashcards
What are the 4 main components of the canopy system?
Canopy frame assembly, fwd windscreen, fwd ckpt transparency, rear ckpt transparency
Which parts of the canopy have birdstrike protection w/ thicker glass?
Fwd windscreen, fwd ckpt transparency
What type of birdstrike is the T-6A built to withstand?
4-pound birdstrike at up to 270 KIAS
What are the sub-systems of the canopy frame assembly
1,Hinge/strut system
- locking/latching system
- sealing system
- CFS
What is the purpose of the hinge/strut system, and how does it work?
Enable a single operator to move the canopy using about 30lbs of force & bear most of the canopy’s weight 🡪 oil-filled struts attached to hinged (right) side of canopy provide mechanical advantage
How many hooks engage w/ catches in slots on the canopy sill to fully close/lock canopy?
5 hooks on canopy frame
What verifies the latched condition of the canopy, extinguishing the CANOPY annunciator?
Electrical microswitches on 3 of the latches, 1 on the canopy sill at the fwd edge of the canopy
What does the canopy sealing system contain?
Non-inflatable weather seal (bottom), inflatable pressure seal (top) that loop around the entire canopy perimeter
When does the one-piece seamless pressure seal inflate and how does it work?
Pneumatically using cooled engine bleed air from the anti-G system; automatically when bleed air inflow is available and weight off R main LDG gear
Where must the bleed air inflow switch be for canopy seal to operate?
NORM, HI
When should you not open the canopy?
Wind exceeds 40 knots
When is the canopy’s latch mechanism considered properly engaged?
The hooks must be in position, connecting rod fully extended, lock latched against the lock plate
How do you know the canopy is closed & latched?
CANOPY annunciator extinguishes; mechanical green indicators visible
T/F: The CFS is engaged only for the transparency under which it was activated.
True
How do you pull the CFS handle?
Pull out safety pin 🡪 rotate CFS handle 90 degrees CCW 🡪 pull up using 15-25lbs of force
