Q

What is the purpose of the hinge/strut system, and how does it work?

A

Enable a single operator to move the canopy using about 30lbs of force & bear most of the canopy’s weight 🡪 oil-filled struts attached to hinged (right) side of canopy provide mechanical advantage

Q

When does the one-piece seamless pressure seal inflate and how does it work?

A

Pneumatically using cooled engine bleed air from the anti-G system; automatically when bleed air inflow is available and weight off R main LDG gear

16
Q

Which CFS handles are inoperative, and where are they located?

A

External CFS handles, found behind lockable doors on either side of the fuselage (must remain closed & locked)

17
Q

T/F: The CFS requires external or electrical power to operate.

A

False

18
Q

What kind of charge does the fwd transparency use?

A

Flexible Linear Shaped Charge (FLSC) for thicker glass lined around periphery and down centerline

19
Q

What kind of charge does the rear transparency use?

A

Mild detonation cord (MDC) lined around periphery & in diamond pattern along centerline

20
Q

How does the CFS work (up to acceptor assembly)?

A

Pull handle 🡪 piezoelectric crystals produce electric charge 🡪 fire flash lamps 🡪 light source to excite laser rod 🡪 activates optical detonator mounted on the canopy sill 🡪 fires plunger into the CFS acceptor assembly mounted on canopy

21
Q

How does the CFS work after the fire plungers are sent into the acceptor assembly?

A

Plungers in acceptor assemblies 🡪 activate shielded mild detonating cords along rear edge of the canopy 🡪 detonates CFS explosive cords
