SYS 208 - ECS Flashcards
The engine provides bleed air for what?
Ckpt heating, canopy defog, anti-G, OBOGS, pressurization
What supplies air conditioning and avionics cooling?
Engine-driven vapor system that does not use bleed air but draws in ckpt air, cools it, and discharges it back into ckpt
The rear cockpit includes only which ECS switch?
Evaporator blower
What provides fresh air during ground ops?
Blower in a duct inside the cowling
What provides fresh air in flight?
Ram air inlet on top of the cowl
What activates the fresh air blower?
Weight-on-wheels switch
What controls the amount of fresh air ventilation for both ground ops and unpressurized flight?
RAM AIR FLOW switch
OFF fresh air valve closed
NORM fresh air valve mid open
HI fresh air valve full open
When does the pressurization override the RAM AIR FLOW switch & close the fresh air valve?
When the aircraft reaches a pressure altitude of 8,000ft
Which P3 port provides bleed air to the pressurization, heating, & anti-G?
Right port
Where does the temperature controller in the heat system receive inputs?
Ckpt temp sensor in duct between 2 ckpts, cabin temp sensor on rear pressure bulkhead, TEMP CONTROL switch
What does the heat exchanger bypass valve do?
Allows a portion of the warm bleed air to bypass the heat exchanger & mix with cooled air from heat exchanger
What happens if the ckpt temperature control sensor detects a temp in excess of 165°F?
Heat exchanger bypass valve forced closed all bleed air through heat exchanger
Which two temp sensing switches alert the pilot of overtemp in the ducting?
One in the duct near firewall shutoff valve, and other is located at the aft defog control valve
Amber DUCT TEMP annunciator comes on at what duct air temp?
300 F
What does setting the DEFOG switch to ON do?
Opens defog valve and sets the inflow valve to high (full open) higher volume of bleed air flow to heating system; turns on AC compressor to remove moisture from the air
How does the heating system ejector work?
High volume air creates venturi flow ejector draws in ambient ckpt air mixes w/ bleed air in main ckpt duct increase volume
How is defog air temp maintained?
TEMP CONTROL switch
What are the main components of the air conditioning system?
Belt-driven compressor at front of engine; condenser and blower in aft fuselage; front/rear ckpt evaporator/blower modules; service fittings
How is the refrigerant recharged?
By maintenance personnel through service fittings behind a panel on the right fuselage forward of the wing leading edge
How does the evaporator blower/AC work?
Engine-driven compressor sends liquid refrigerant to condenser evaporator coils blower draws ambient air over coil refrigerant absorbs heat & becomes vaport cooled air from evaporator/blower module discharges from ckpt outlet refrigerant moves back to compressor
