What is a phrase?
A grammatical unit that consists of 1 or more word
What is a noun phrase?
A phrase that has a noun at its ‘head’ and is modified by an adjective, determiner or preposition
What is a verb phrase
A verb head with another word to indicate tense, mood or person (ie auxiliaries)
What is an adpositional phrase?
An adpostional head and a modifier.
Without the adposition, the noun phrase would be unconnected
What is an adjectival phrase?
A group of words that describes a noun or pronoun
What is an adverbial phrase?
A group of words that provides information about the verb, adverb or adjective. Can state when, where, how or why

What is an agent (sematic roles)
the do-er/ instigator of an event
What is a patient (semantic roles)
the undergoer of an event, usually undergoing an unintentional change because of it
What is a recipient (semantic roles)
The receiver in an event of transfer
What is a beneficiary (semantic roles)
The entity profiting from an event, but does not necessarily receive anything
What is the experiencer (semantic roles)
The entity in some physical, cognitive or emotional state
What is a possessor (semantic roles)
The abstract owner of another entity
What is the location (semantic roles)
The place at which the event occurs
