SYNOVIAL JOINT MOVEMENTS Flashcards
Amphiarthroses
Slightly movable joints
Diarthroses
Fully movable joints/articulations.
Synarthoses
Inmmovable joints
Flexion
Decreases angle between two bones ( hinge joints cause flexion) the dangerous extreme of flexion is hyperflexion.
Extension
Increases angle between two bones ( hinge joints cause flexion) the dangerous extreme of flexion is hyperextension.
Abduction
Increases the distance of a limb from the midline(sagittal middle line) thus becoming even more lateral
Adduction
Decreasing the distance from the limb to the midline (gets closer to the midline)
Circumduction
movement in a circular pattern
Supination
Palm turning upwards
Pronation
Palm turns downward and radius crosses over the ulna
Plantar Flexion
extends foot with toes pointing down
Dorsiflexion
foot reveals sole and points toes up wards. (Foot tilts upwards)
inversion
turns sole of the foot inwards towards the midline
eversion
turns sole of the foot outwards laterally
Elevation
Lifting the body (superior) upwards. Think of a jumping-ish movement
Depression
(occurs in frontal plane) Moves the body downwards into itself (into its thoracic region) think of the movement you do when you touch your toes with your phalanges while standing.
Opposition
moves the thumb to touch the tips of the other fingers
