synarthrosis Flashcards
what are the main types of joints?
synarthrosis and diarthrosis
what are the subcategories for synarthrosis joints
fibrous joints and cartilaginous joints
describe 1 characteristic of synarthrosis joints
they permit slide to no movement
why do synarthrosis joints permit slide to no movement
because of the reinforcement by the combination of fibrous and cartilaginous C.T
give an example of fibrous joints
sutures of the skull, distal tibiofibular, interosseous membrane
what are fibrous joints stabalised by
dense ct and alot of collagen type 1
where are fibrous joints most commonly found
they are found in places where maximum stability is required and the force is transferred from bone to bone
in cartilaginous joints where can we find synchondrosis
Synchondrosis we can find in the costosternal joints which are the anterior/ventral connection between your sternum and your ribs (as well as in the epiphyseal plate in a growing human)
what is symphysis
Symphysis is a fibrous joint that consists of a disc- such as the pubic symphysis or the vertabral disc
what are the characteristics of cartilaginous joints regarding moevement
allow little to no movement
what are cartilaginous joints stabilized by
they are stabilized by various forms of fibrous or hyaline cartilage
where are cartilaginous joints typically found
the midline
