Men did 10 hours of care for the family and women did 23 hours.

Women’s jobs are less satisfying. For example cleaning the kitchen is a job that needs repeating every couple of hours but mending a fuse gives a sense of a task being finished.

What financial power do woman have?
They choose furniture, children’s clothes and what food to buy, but they don’t take charge on big decisions like whether to move house etc.
Why do women have less say in financial decisions?
Because they earn less than their partners and had to take time out of their careers to raise their children.

There is a growing individualisation in financial matters as more women work and so have their own bank account.
Why might Pahl’s growing individualisation actually increase inequality?
Because men earn 15% more, so its harder for women to take out loans and so men are more likely to make important financial decisions.
However women are more likely to pay for childcare, which ends up eating into their already small bank account.
Why are women seen as unreliable by some employers?
Because employers fear they will get pregnant again, or will take time off when the children get sick.
Working mothers will also find it difficult to attend out of hours meetings which could lead to better career options.
Who is more likely to move house for their partners job?
Women, which means they have to start again at a new job, often at a lower level.
