SYMBOLS Flashcards
x with a bar on top, called x-bar
The sample mean
Formula: Add all data together, then divide it by how many pieces of data were added.
SD:
Standard Deviation
Uppercase Sigma (looks like an E)
Summation, i.e. that all data sets will be processed in the following equation, then added together.
Lowercase Mu (looks like u):
Mean of the population data set.
s:
Standard Deviation for the sample data statistic.
Formula:
s = (square root of (s^2))
Same thing as:
s= square root of ((Uppercase Sigma ((x-x-bar)^2 )) / n-1)
s^2:
Variance for the sample data statistic
Formula:
s^2 = (Uppercase Sigma ((x-x-bar)^2 )) / n-1
Lowercase sigma (looks like o with a line on top pointing right):
Standard deviation for the population data parameter.
Lowercase sigma (looks like o with a line on top pointing right) ^2
Variance for the population data parameter.
