Symbols
A setting, an object, or an even in a story that carries more than literal meaning and therefore represents something significant to understanding the meaning of a work of literature
Allegory
A literary work that portrays abstract ideas concretely. Characters in a allegory are frequently personifications of abstract ideas and are given names that refer to these ideas
Archetypes
A cultural symbol that has become universally understood and recognized
Second-person POV
Makes the reader of the story a character within the story
First-person POV
The narrator is a character in the story; refers to him or herself as “I”
Third-person POV
Uses “she, he, it, and they;” keeps the viewer or reader at a distance stopping them from playing a role in the story
Omniscient
All-Knowing; The narrator knows what every character thinks and feels
Limited Omniscient narrators
Only knows and relate what 1 major or minor character thinks or feels
Omniscient narrator
Shares what all characters think and feel instead of limiting the narrator perspective to 1 character
