Q

Incineration process: org liquids, solids (pcbs, ods), sludges

A
  1. Primary combustion - 800-1300 for 40 min (creates bottom ash)
  2. flue gases
  3. secondary combustion - 1200 for 2 seconds (creates fly ash) - attempting to get complete combustion of organic waste
  4. air pollution control systems - deals with non-incinerated HW and HW created by this process

must achieve DRE 99.9999%

Q

2 main purposes of incineration

A
  1. ~ 90% volume reduction

2. toxicity reduction - incineration destroys this molecular structure

Q

Phys/Chem treatment process

A

Inorganic solids and liquids > Treatment ( Redox, neutralization, precipitation) > filter (separates solids and liquids) > liquids (DWI) > solids > stabilization > landfill
