Causes of Deforestation (3)
Mining
- Amazon rich in natural resources: iron, copper, tin, Al, and Ag leading to mines
Logging
- Rainforests cut down soo trees like mahogany and timber can be sold.
Farming
- Large areas are cleared for animals as global demand for meat increased 150 billion in last 20 years
Impacts of Deforestation:
Soil Erosion
- land is cleared; soil is bare exposed to rain and wind which leeches the soil of nutrients.
- No trees too replace this therefore cycle stops and soil become infertile.
Climate Change:
- Trees do 25% of CO2 exchange
- Less trees: less exchange: global warming and less O2
Loss of Habitat and biodiversity
