Conserving the historic, cultural and natural environment which has been done in Bristol by preserving the structure and architecture of buildings such as the Watershed and the Arnolfini. Residential areas have been developed in keeping with the local environment e.g. the cathedral quarter ensured the cathedral was retained in the city’s skyline-cafe gusto had to lower its roof. Ashton Court is a greenbelt site which encourages brownfield development and protect surrounding countryside. Reverse doughnut effect.
How has the disposal of waste been reduced safely in Bristol?
Bristol city council pick up recycled garden and kitchen waste, glass, metal, paper and card every week and only collect general waste every two weeks. This encourages recycling. Stores do not supply plastic bags and only sell ‘bags for life’. A charge of 5p for plastic bags has come in. Local food sources are used more-reduces carbon footprint.
