The total area of productive land and water required to produce the resources a population consumes and absorb the waste produced

What are the inputs and outputs of sustainable cities?
Inputs:
- food goods
- conservation and use of renewable energy
- people
Outputs:
- reduced waste, reduced air and noise pollution
What are the characteristics of a sustainable city?
Social: available food supplies, green housing and building, adequate schools and healthcare, good sanitation, green public transport
Environmental: managed waste and recycling, climate change management, energy efficiency
Economic: job opportunities, production and distribution of renewable energy, green technology investment
Political: adoption of green urban planning, reduce inequality strategies, support of links e.g. national and local
