What is Global South?
Formerly referred to, by some, as “third world”, are the countries which are located in the Southern Hemisphere including the nations of Africa, Central and Latin America, and most of Asia. Many have less developed or severely limited resources.
What is Climate Change?
Climate change refers to the broader set of changes that coincide with warmer temperatures, including changes in weather patterns, the oceans, ice and snow, and ecosystems around the world.
What is Economy?
The wealth and resources of a country or region, especially in terms oft he production and consumption of goods and services.
What is Infrastructure?
The basic facilities ,services and installations needed for the functioning of a community or society, such as transportation and communication systems, water and power lines, and public institutions including schools, post offices, and prisons.
What is Sustainable?
The ability for something to be maintained, or sustain itself. Using what we need to live now without jeopardising future needs. If an activity is sustainable, it should be bale to continue forever.
What is Geothermal Energy?
A form of renewable energy which sues steam created by the heat beneath the earth’s surface. Heat from the earth’s molten core in areas of volcanic activity or at the juncture of the earth’s tectonic plates, flows naturally toward the cooler surface to form hot springs, geysers, steam vents (fumaroles) and boiling mud pots.
What is Universality?
Universality means the SDGs apply to all people, regardless of where they were born, and must leave no one behind.
What are Sustainable Development Goals?
Global goals adopted by the United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect eh planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
How are SDGs integrated?
They recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustaibability.
What is “Leave No One Behind”?
A pledge to fast-track progress for those furthest behind first. SDGs are designed to bring the world to several life-changing zeros; zero poverty, hunger, AIDS and discrimination against women and girls.
What is the role of the UN development agency (UNDP)?
To support countries in achieving the SDGs through integrated solutions. Focus on systems, root causes and connections between challenges, to build solutions that respond to people’s daily realities.
