What is sustainability?
The earth’s capability to continue supporting life.
What does 21st Century society rely heavily on?
Relies heavily on fossil fuels for transportation, energy and the mass manufacture of consumer goods, and also often requires the destruction of natural habitats.
Strategy used by many to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
Many people use wind and solar power, and the development of green spaces in urban environments.
What is sustainable development?
Economic development that is conducted without depletion of natural resources.
What do scholars such as Lovelock and Naess argue?
They argue that not nearly enough has been done and therefore radical action needs to be take to avert lasting damage to the earth and its inhabitants.
