The UK Met Office defines it as the ‘large-scale, long-term shift in the planet’s weather patterns or average temperatures.

In 2015, just under 200 countries signed the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Conference on Climate Change which committed the signatories to keeping global temperature increase below 2 degrees Celsius.
