Q

What is a carbon footprint?

A

Is the amount of CO2 or other greenhouse gases emitted during a product’s lifetime, including its
production, use and disposal. Manufacturers should try to minimise these effects by reducing energy use
and cutting down transportation and consumers by careful disposal of the product.

Q

What is sustainability?

A

Designers, and manufacturers have a responsibility to design and manufacture products that use fewer
materials and components in their manufacture and consume less energy during manufacture, transport
and use. They also need to consider how to recover and reuse materials after their use. This is known as
sustainability.
