Suspensions, Colloids & Solutions: Flashcards
What is a Suspension?
A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which the solid particles are spread throughout the substance unevenly.
What does heterogeneous mean?
You can see two different substances.
What does homogeneous mean?
The solute is evenly spread throughout the substance
What is a Colloid?
a mixture of one substance spread out evenly inside another substance meaning it is a homogeneous mixture.
What is a solution?
When a Solute and a Solvent are mixed together to create a solution.
What is an example of a Solution?
Salt Water
Vinegar
Soft drink
What is an example of a Colloid?
Milk
Marshmallow
Butter

Solution
What is the definition of dilute?
make (a liquid) thinner or weaker by adding water or another solvent to it.
What is the definition of concentrated?
Where there is a larger amount of solute dissolved in a solvent.
