Seperation Techniques: Flashcards
Name all the separation techniques
Decantation
Filtration
Evaporation
Crystallisation
Distillation
Chromatography
What is Decantation?
Is the process of letting a substance sit and then the solids will drop to the bottom and then would allow you to pour liquid out slowly separating the liquid from the solid until it is all gone.
What is filtration?
Is the separation of solids from liquids using a filtering system that allows the liquid to go through and the solids to be stopped.
What is Evaporation?
Is when you boil the liquid from the solid and the liquid turns into water vapour leaving the solid behind, but the two different things must have different boiling points for it to work.
What is Crystallisation?
What is Distillation?
Is like evaporation but the liquid is captured in another container, the process of distillation can only work if the two things have different boiling points.
What is a saturated solution?
Is when the solvent has absorbed the maximum amount of solute.
