Suspension training Flashcards
advantages of suspension training
ability to tailor the exercise and equipment to the individual
the range and direction of movement can be self-adjusted without needing to stop the exercise.
much easier to target very specific areas of muscle - useful for rehabilitation or posture.
also helps develop strong core which improves overall athletic performance, appearance of midsection and reduce likelihood of lower back pain.
portable system
disadvantages of suspension training
when not in a gym location trying to find something to attach the suspension trainer to can be difficult.
resistance capped at bodyweight.
some advanced/explosive exercises wouldn’t be suitable for novice exercisers.
vector resistance
(standing exercises) the closer to the feet are moved towards the point at which the suspension trainer is anchored, the higher the resistance.
pendulum resistance
(horizontal from the ground) if feet are positioned in front of anchor point, resistance is increased. if feet positioned behind anchor point, resistance decreased.
alternative ways of managing intensity
using weighted vest or chain
using a dumbbell or kettlebell in free hand
elevating feet with horizontal type exercises.
