What are the procedures for suspects at the scene?
Separate suspects from other people.
Consider have a injured affected by drugs are alcohol or medical or mental impairment.
Ask them to remain and to cooperate.
Remove ASAP by consent or lawful justification.
Consider cross contamination issues.
If arrested or detained then caution.
Good cause to suspect offence committed then caution and repeat upon arrest.
If suspect the child or young person caution and deal with as per CYFS Act.
Consider searching the suspect and the vehicle and belongings.
Consider searching the vicinity of the suspect and area or route they took.
Note their appearance and behaviour i.e. e.g. shocked agitated ripped clothing.
Record everything I say and consider a preliminary interview.
Wherever possible record on DVD.
Brief OCI on their arrival. Mention risks around cross contamination all movement in or near the scene.
