Surveillance passive
Routine record and report of data from patients on a defined event reported to the health Authority
Surveillance passive
No active search for cases. Routine record and report of data from patients on a defined event reported to the health Authority
Active surveillance
Surveillance that includes contacting health providers and lab reports of cases requires reporting of negative cases
Enhanced surveillance
Collecting more detailed data then would normally be collected during passive surveillance

Objectives of surveillance
A Early warning sign for outbreaks, B identify communicable disease cases evaluate effectiveness of CD control and prevention measures C provide evidence for policy regulations and guidelines D provide data for research E monitoring, disease, trends, F detecting changes in infectious agents, including development of antibiotic resistance
Advantages : Cons to passive survey
A cost-effective B, looking at disease and demographic C, no cases no reporting
Cons: A relies on motivation B ability reliability due to incomplete data. C patients need to seek HC to be identified and D fears of stigma.
Ways to improve passive survey
Providing education to HC providers, ensure reporting is made simple as possible provide feedback on reporting and provide prompt follow up of missed reporting
