Surgical Tech Flashcards
What is step 1?
Use trial or footprint spacer to determine width of annulotomy.
What is step 2?
Prepare disc space
Why is removal of entire end plate problematic?
It can weaken the end plate by removing bone underneath the cartilaginous layers - which can lead to implant subsidence and lead to loss of segmental stability.
Step 3:
Mobilize segment. This is done with our Vertebral Body Spreader.
How far should you insert the spreader?
Place the tips to the posterior margin of the vertebral bodies.
Why place the tips of the spreaders to the posterior margin of vertebral bodies?
This will minimize the risk of endplate fracture
What is the height of the spreader when closed?
6mm. Each tip is 3mm
What can you use in surgery to help you visualize placement of the spreaders?
Xray
