Q

Describe the procedure of cataract surgeries:

A
  • 3mm corneal incision allows the insertion of IOL
  • removal of circular portion of the anterior capsule which creates an aperture from which the lens is removed and the iol is inserted
  • the remaining capsule supports the IOL
  • the phaco probe is inserted
  • the probe emits ultrasonic radiation which allows for the nucleus to be broken up into smaller pieces and it combines with aspirating fluid hence emulsification
  • the probe then vacuums out the lens fragments
  • then the soft nucleus is removed by suction
  • the phaco probe is removed and iol is inserted via a needle and unfolds and gets shaped over the pupil being held by haptics in the equator region
